Assignment 1: IT Project Management Assessment

After World War II, tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union spawned a period of mutual suspicions, heightened tensions, and a series of international incidents known as the Cold War that brought the nations to the brink of war (Cold War, n.d.). For much of this Cold War, Fernald Feed Materials Production Center in Cincinnati, Ohio supplied uranium metals for the United States military. In 1989, the facility was closed, leaving much of the radioactive waste material sitting dormant awaiting environmental cleanup. The cleanup of the facility’s materials began in December 1992 and completed in 2006 by the Fluor Corporation. “Fluor closed the project 12 years earlier and $7.8 billion below initial estimates” (PMI Project of the Year, n.d.).
