Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum in Matsuyama-machi, Nagasaki was made and dedicated to the victims and survivors of the Atom bomb, the War and world peace. Though, it is mainly dedicated to those unfortunate people who were affected by the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki, on the 9th of August, 1945 at 11:02am.

It is open everyday except for December 29-31, from 8:30am to 6:30pm (until 5:30pm from September to April). Admission to enter is 200 yen, and admission closes 20 minutes before closing time.

In the museum are photographs, customs and scenery of Nagasaki before the bombing, documentary films related to the bombing, a Q&A corner and a clock stopped at the time of the bombing (11:02am). The museum gives those who enter an insight to the horror of war and the atomic bomb that was dropped, leaving a lasting experience that won’t be forgotten. The museum informs and shows people the experience and suffering the victims went through so their misery and pain will not be forgotten, but be passed onto future generations. People around the world, and the citizens of Nagasaki, pray for the victims of the atomic bomb as well as families and friends affected.

There is also a peace park outside of the Atomic bomb museum. In the park stands the massive ‘Peace Statue’, as well as various other memorials donated from around the world. The park has free entry & is built on a low hill to the north of the hypocentre of the atomic bomb blast. The park was created to represent the wish for world peace, and a vow that such a tragic war would never be repeated. Every year on August 9, the anniversary of the bombing, a peace memorial ceremony is conducted in front of the Peace Statue and a peace declaration by the Mayor of Nagasaki is made to the people of the world. The Peace Statue, sculpted by Seibou Kitamura (Nagasaki native), is a 9.7 meter high monument symbolising Nagasaki’s citizen’s wish for peace. It’s...
