Who was the secret soldier? Deborah Sampson! She was not a typical women. Deborah had other things on her mind than getting married and starting a family. She loved adventures and had many accomplishments in her life.

Well let’s say being a kid was hard for Deborah. Deborah’s father had died in a ship wreck. Her mother was ill and was left to care for her five children. It was too hard for Sampson’s mom. So one day Deborah was sent to live with her mom’s cousin, Ms. Fuller. Everything was good for three years until Ms. Fuller got very sick and died. Deborah was left to live with an 83 year old lady named Ms. Thatcher. Due to Ms. Thatcher’s age, Deborah was taking care of this old lady for quiet a long time until she died. There was only one person left who would care for Deborah. But there was conditions. Deborah had to help with many chores. Some of them included cooking, cleaning, feeding the animals, cleaning the house, and helping watch all seven of the preacher’s kids. It was hard for her but she seemed to managed.

Deborah has been known as a school teacher. She was only supposed to teach the kids how to sew and to read a little bit, but taught them all she knew even if it was possibly wrong. Deborah wanted more and she had an interest in the war. Back in her time, women were not allowed to enter in the war however that didn’t stop her. She called her self Robert Shurtleft. And enlisted in the war for three years. She disguised her self as a man. She had always kept it a secret. Deborah (Robert) was wounded twice and kept it a secret. Until she passed out because of a high fever. Deborah woke up in the hospital and her identity was discovered. She no longer had a secret.

Deborah has had many accomplishments in her life. Deborah was banned from the war and married a guy named Benjamin Garret. She also had three children named Earl, Mary, and Patience. She eventually adopted a girl named Susanna from an...
