International Environmental Law

There are many international environmental law issues. They focus on areas like the ozone layer, overfishing, transboundary pollution, global climate change and others. In this paper, the focus will be on global climate change. It will describe the nature of the problem, the effects on humans and the environment, and the history of global climate change. It will explore the role of law in solving the problem. It will discuss possible solutions and the policies that address global climate change. Global climate change is a serious problem for the Earth and can no longer be ignored.

The History

In 1896, Svante Arrhenius, a Swedish scientist, published the first calculations of global warming from human emissions of carbon dioxide. His theory was that global warming would take thousands of years because of the relatively rate low carbon emissions in 1896. As history progressed and technology advanced, other scientists have supported Arrhenius’s claims. In the 1930’s, Guy Callendar’s work wasn’t taking seriously. In the 1950’s, Roger Revelle and fellow scientists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography were intent on a better understanding of the weather and climate. In 1988, an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was created, this network of scientists provide reports and climate change research.
