I am a bartender and manager at the bar I work at in Texas. Business communication is vital for me when I am searching for either new bands to play or new events to sponsor or hold for my bar. The bands will call to set up bookings, or they will email me videos of their shows and the followings they have (so I can see what kind of revenue the band will bring in to the bar). I will also receive e-mails from event planners who want my bar to sponsor their event, or they will call to inquire about holding their event at my bar. I am not one of those people who completely immerse themselves in technology by conducting every facet of my life or my business on their cell phones or pda’s, but communications technology is a great help in my daily activities. I use my cell phone to set up meetings with bands or event planners. I can receive e-mails on my phone so I can keep up to date with scheduling issues, inventory issues, new band videos customers and friends send me to gauge whether or not I would be interested in booking a band, etc. I do not see any real trends as far as advancements in business communications at my present job; however I have seen trends implemented in a previous job I held as a quality assurance technician at Pilgrim’s Pride. Before I left that job we had begun installing and implementing handheld docking workstations. The computers were approximately 14 inches wide and 8 inches tall, with a depth of about 3 inches. These computers allowed each department in the company to input up to the minute data that could be accessed by every entity of the company, whether the plant was in Waco, Texas or in Atlanta, Georgia. This trend in using computer docking stations instead of the old way of inputting data (filling out paperwork and submitting it, then the data eventually getting to the people who translate what the data means for production quantities and such) allows a production company to see where extra costs are creeping in and eliminate them, thus...
