Advertisers have numerous amounts of tactics and methods to deceive the human mind. They prey on human emotions and insecurities in order to sell their products and services. Celebrity superstar Justin Bieber, a role model to millions of teens, is recently the new spokesperson for Proactiv’s latest commericial. Justin’s commercial contains various aspects of marketing propaganda mentioned by advertising experts Jay Chiat, Ann McClintock, Clotaire Rapaille, and also a relationship to Robert Bly’s issue of the human shadow as well.

The plot of Justin’s commercial involves him and other teenagers giving testimonials on how Proactiv really works to clear their acne and changed their lives. The ad starts off with Justin Bieber talking about three things that come with becoming a teenager: the foot grows, hormones kick in, and acne. Justin says the only thing he can stop out of those three is acne and he is not going to let zits get in his way. The narrator of the commercial then says be just like Justin Bieber and join the fight against acne. Proactiv proceeds to claim that it is an easy system that works for all ages and skin types. Justin Bieber continues to give his testimony that Proactiv is just right for kids like him. The ad goes on to show several before and after photos of teenagers to show how well Proactiv cleared up their skin and has given them a flawless complexion. One testimony of a teenager says she used numerous of products but Proactiv is the only one that changed her face forever. Proactiv then declares they are the number one acne system in America developed by two top dermatologists and it is faster and gentler than before. The commercial finishes with Proactiv offering one free gift if the customer’s call and order now. The setting of the ad takes place in numerous locations such as following Justin Bieber as he plays basketball, sings on tour, and takes pictures with fans.
