Concrete Mixing & Strength Report

Concrete is a construction material that is composed of cement. In addition to, the main purpose of this project was to inform the class on how to make concrete by mixing cement, sand, and water. The members of our group was Hector and myself, Benard. The role of Hector’s job was to fill the cup with sand and put it into the bucket and also fill it with water. My job was to do the calculations and fill it in with cement and mix it together to form concrete. Both of us basically split the whole project in half and helped each other when in contact of a problem.

While we were getting the sand, water, and cement into the bucket, we had to then mix it all together. It started to get hard after a while of mixing because we had to get the perfect consistency of the rod so in the future, it wouldn’t break into little tiny pieces. When we got the rod back, it was only into two pieces. It was basically split in half due to the air farts in the middle of the rod which made it break off into two parts. The rod was 17 inches but since it was split in half , both of the parts were 13.5 inches even.

All in all, this project has educated me a lot in many ways. For example, it first taught me how to make concrete which was really cool and will help you in the future if you are planning to build a home or even make small things for your home. Another example, I didn’t even know cement and concrete were different. Cement is actually an ingredient in order to make concrete. Some errors were that our rod was broken into half because of small air farts that were in the middle of the rod which was the weak point and caused our rod to break into two pieces. In comparison to, some of our calculations might have been wrong which in order made the rod weak and broke into two pieces. On the other hand, it was a great project and I honestly learned a lot from it.
