A Summer for All My Life

It’s common for someone to have a precious person in their lifers, like a mother or wife; some other may have a specific song, book or even a phrase that is unforgettable for them. But if there’s something that everyone has, that would b e a moment or phase in their life’s that influenced or even completely changed their thoughts and perspectives towards life. This kind of experiences can’t be learnt from a school or university. Sometimes life is your best teacher and experiences the best course someone could ever have. Everything that happened to me on last year’s summer trip to Japan taught me a lot of very valuable lessons, by getting separated from my loved ones and having to live by myself, learning a lot about Japanese cuisine and also from my mentor’s attitude towards their job, influenced towards the person who I am now.

Been in the city of Kumamoto in Japan, was more than a merely great experience, were I learned a lot about myself. This was going to be the first time to be away from my relatives, living all alone in a country a barely knew. I worked so hard to get this scholarship as a trainee in Japan. I still can remember the day and moment I received the call from the Kumamoto prefecture, confirming that I was selected for the scholarship. I honestly felt confused and didn’t know if that was something good or not due to all those mixed feelings I was having at the same time. On one hand, I was very excited and had a lot of expectations for this trip. Learning more about Japanese cuisine, to be able to understand more about the culture and language of my ancestors were my major objectives. Although on the other hand, I was sad and afraid of having to separate for such a long time from my family, friends, and especially from my wonderful girlfriend, Celina, whom I love so much. Although it was very hard to leave such important people behind, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity which I had to take advantage of.
