Define social change. What are the key features of social change? Provide four examples of social movements, current or past, and describe the key features of each movement.

* Based on my understanding, social change is the augmentation of the social structure over time. The key features of social change are: social change happens all the time, it is sometimes intentional but often unplanned, it is controversial, and some changes matter more than others. Some good examples of social movements are: the civil rights movement, women’s rights movement, gay rights, and the industrial revolution. The key features that are a part of the civil rights movement are: it was intentional, it was controversial, and it mattered. The key features of the women’s rights movement and gay rights movement are both the same as the civil rights movement. This is because all of these movements were based on people receiving equal treatment and having the same rights as others in society. Hence, all of these movements are still ongoing, which falls under the key feature change happens all of the time. Women are still progressing towards fair treatment in the work place and other areas, African-Americans are still progressing towards better treatment in several areas. We are now witnessing gay rights making progress with the right to get married in many states. The industrial revolution was intentional and it mattered more than others, this is because through the industrial revolution society began to grow. The industrial revolution gave rise to technological advances, which we are still seeing presently. The significant impact that all 4 of these examples have had on society connects them to social change by definition.
