Good Boss versus Bad Boss

When it comes to your boss, would you rather have a good boss or a bad boss? The characteristics of a good boss are totally opposite of a bad boss. A good boss is considerate when it comes to having a sick child, with no one to watch them, and you cannot take them to daycare or leave them at home. Say you want to take a family vacation at a particular time of the year, or you may even want to take one that is unexpected and spontaneous. Life is full of unexpected things that may happen or go wrong, and you may need to take time off.

A bad boss is unappreciative. He/she will not give credit where credit is due. They may take credit for a task that one of their employees completed or an idea that was came up with by another employee. Some may also treat their employees unfairly by not giving them the time off that the employee requested or give ultimatums to the employee that calls out because his/her child is sick. These kinds of bosses also talk down to the employee or belittle them, making them feel that he/she is not needed or that he/she cannot do anything right.

A good boss is also responsible and will delegate the task at work that need to be completed evenly among his/her employees. He/she will only assign tasks to his/her employees that the employee will be able to handle, complete on time, and will not become overwhelmed in trying to complete it. He/she will also take responsibility in completing the things that only he/she are supposed to complete such as certain paper work or verifying deposits.

To be a good boss, you have to be a good listener. That way you will be able to manage people and also be able to assess his/her employees’ needs and meet them. You will not allow any finger pointing and will take the blame, along with all other employees’, of any problem that may come about and discuss the matter with his/her employees how to better the area into which the problem came up.
