Fast Food and the Risks that lead to Heart Disease and Hypertension

In today's world, fast food is part of many Americans' lifestyle. Many people may not know this, but “in 1972, $3 Billion dollars were spent on Fast food, today $110 is spent on fast food” (Brandon, 2009). The unhealthy ingredients and amount of calories contained in fast foods, gradually add up causing health problems. In today's society, time is very limited, people sometimes don't have time to make or even eat food. Leaving the option of grabbing food on the go, by going to a fast food place such as Taco Bell, Mc Donald's, Burger King, etc. Eating fast food and making that part of one’s lifestyle is very unhealthy, leading to health issues such as heart disease and hypertension.Nationwide people have problems with heart disease and hypertension due to the food and food ingredients. If Americans increase exercise and reduce their intake of fast food then significant improvement in most people’s health and quality of life.

Deep fried fast foods are one of the main sources that contain trans-fat and lead to having heart diseases. Trans-fat is considered to be the worst kind of fats, because it increases cholesterol, which then can increase one's risk of getting a heart problem. Researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health and Wageningen University in the Netherlands say that "on a per-calorie basis, trans fats appear to increase the risk of coronary heart disease more than any other [nutrient], conferring a substantially increased risk at low levels of consumption (1 to 3 percent of total energy intake, or 20 to 60 calories)" (William Cromie, 2006).Tran’s fat should be reduced from foods sold in stores, restaurants, snack bars, even fast food manufacturers, because it only causes more sickness and...
