Man’s creations of government, the sciences, and religion have been the core elements of our world. Karl Marx and Charles Darwin stand as two of the few great men that have brought revolutionary ideas and effects to these core subjects of our reality. In “The Descent of Man” by Charles Darwin, natural selection is introduced as an explanation for the origin of life and for the diversity in the world. This text written in 1871, posed an enormous problem to the contemporary ideas and theories and many were reluctant to accept it. Darwin’s ideas went against the accepted creationist belief that God created all life on earth, as well it went against many core scientific ideas that were widely accept. Therefore his ideas of natural selection were not accepted immediately but quickly attained evidence in favor as experiments and test were conducted to challenge the theory. Once these test were successful and evidence piled in favor for natural selection it became the scientific theory accepted throughout the scholarly world. Karl Marx was not as successful as Darwin in spreading his idea and having it become accepted throughout the world. Karl Marx’s “The Communist Manifesto” is a criticism of capitalism and of how the world should be governed. His ideas sent a shockwave throughout the world. A few countries attempted introducing “communism” as their form of government, all have surely failed under Marx’s idea of communism. The reason it made such an impact is because it criticized the most common and powerful type of government structure, capitalism. Therefore people have been forced to think about how capitalism is flawed and the future of their lives within this system.

One of the main criticism that both Darwin and Marx share is that of religion. Each one has a different way of criticizing it and employing it to their texts.
