A Career in Medicine

When it comes to obtaining a career in the medical field, there are a vast number of options to choose from. So many different fields it’s impossible to not find something that interests you. Medicine is one of those career fields in which there will always be opportunities to work. There will always be a need for passionate individuals to treat the sick because everyone needs medical attention at some point in their life. I took my time to research the career of a Pharmacist and how to obtain their level of expertise within their field and I learned that there is a lot more to it than I first thought.

In order to become a Pharmacist you must first complete four years of undergraduate studies following a pre-pharmacy track. That would include courses such as biology, chemistry and calculus. All a few of the many pre requisites to begin pharmacy school. Even before completing undergraduate studies and receiving a bachelors degree, those seeking to pursue a career as a pharmacist must take the PCAT. The PCAT is the pharmacy college admissions test, the test required to apply to pharmacy schools. Just like the SAT or ACT in high school, this test will set the bar for the schools being applied to. The score received is an extremely important part of getting closer to become a Pharmacist. After getting accepted into a pharmacy school, pharmacy students will be working towards receiving their doctor of pharmacy degree. Pharmacy school consists of four years and at the end of those four years, the students are to take the NAPLEX. The North American Pharmacist Licensure Exam will give the student the title of a pharmacist. Students then have the option of receiving additional education by participating in fellowships and residencies that will then, according to the education portal article, “allow training pharmacists to gain patient care experience in community pharmacies, hospitals and other healthcare facilities.” These fellowships will...
