Case 1

Bob and Megan are running a business in which quality is the most important factor in the success and growth of their business. In fact, food industry is very quality-oriented business environment and customers would simply refuses to accept the products which are of a mediocre quality. So in order for them be able to maintain and monitor the quality of their product, they need to focus on the certain aspects of quality standards of a product and conduct a series of quality control methods.

There are several dimension to a product in terms of quality, some of which may not be applicable to a product like beer, but following are those dimensions that Bob and Megan need to focus in the quality control process:

* Conformance: Meaning that to what extent a product can meet pre-defined standards of quality. In this case, they need to measure the conformity of their produced beer against other markets standards and make sure they maintain the quality well above the standard level.

* Aesthetics: This characteristic is related to the taste, smell and feel of a product and of course is of quite significance in beer brewing industry. It’s very important to have the consumer’s feedback on their feeling about the beer and try to use their feedback to improve the customer experience.

* Perception: This means to collect information about consumer’s opinion about different marketing aspect of the product, including brand image, distribution and advertising. Bob and Megan should pay a great deal of attention to this matter and try to improve their marketing strategy in order to improve or correct their brand image in the mind of consumers, and emphasize on the quality of their product as the major advantage.
