A. Executive Summary

The material in this report will provide information on the diverse culture and business behaviors of Japan as this can prove to be a very important factor in dealing with Japanese business as to learn their customs and manners to further establish business relationships with them. It will include their culture that establishes themselves from the rest of the world which makes them so unique.

B. Rationale for Japan

The country I have decided to write my market cultural report on is Japan.  The reason I chose Japan was due to the rich history and cultural behavior that Japan has.  When I was working in the software industry, we had a Japanese client who I had arranged a meeting with in the United States to discuss business.  During the meeting, he was always very proper and courteous throughout while still stern regarding the talk about business.  This type of behavior was intriguing to me as to wonder whether it was his upbringing or whether that is how business is done in Japan.  Personally, I have always been enamored with Japan because of their ability to retain what I refer to as “Old” Japan while staying ahead of the curve with “New” Japan. “Old” Japan to me is considered as the historic, scenic landscape and architecture that you can find all over the country areas of Japan like Kyoto. As a person who enjoys art history, Kyoto offers beauty through colors of nature and architectural precision from their temples and other buildings. A visit there would provide you with an extensive history of Japan while being able to experience historic Japan in present day. “New” Japan refers to the city areas like Tokyo that are ahead of the curve and constantly working towards the future. Tokyo allows you to see what Japan is like now and a possible glimpse of the future in terms of technology to fashion trends.
