Rule of Majority Can Be Wrong

The absence of universal standard for right or wrong for most decision makings and its variability in nature is the focal basis that the rule of majority does not mean the majority will always be right.

Unlike Science, decisions made by the rule of majority do not have universally accepted laws and principles in its very nature that is constant in all areas and applications. This shows that results can be different with the expectations following a similar setting for it is affected by time, culture and people involved that varies. Being “influenced by” denotes that the rule of nature is dependent and can be controlled. Thus, if the influence is unconstructive due to greed, selfishness or neglect of minority then, the ruling decisions that cover the whole system will be wrong.

While it is true that the majority mostly represents the agreement of the group, it is does not mean the decision of the majority is always valid and correct. This is because rule of majority can sometimes be formed without a second thought from the public and most of the time, formulation was done out of popularity and ignorance through cascading effect.

More commonly, culture bypass what is right and let the wrong practice be accepted if the implications or effect is negligible. Thus, the rule of majority can also be wrong if people find certain decisions and practices convenient and the culture tolerates.

The old saying "nobody is perfect" which applies to people is perhaps an affirmation that human error is inevitable. Thus the rule of majority no matter how ideal can be wrong because of its susceptibility to errors and imperfections.
