1. Was this individual professional? Yes, she was smiling and it seems as if she was in a patient’s hospital room caring for her because she was hospitalized for not feeling well.

2. What made the individual professional (consider attire, communication skills, presentation of self, etc.)? The nurse was very professional she had a smile on her face when approached to, she had clean nursing scrubs on, and spoke very professional when spoken to.

3. Were there aspects presented that were not professional? If so, please describe. There were not any aspects that were presented that the nurse didn’t act professional when approached by someone.

Part 2: Personal Reflection and Connection

1. What is the appropriate attire for an individual in your profession? The appropriate attire for a Medical Assistant is clean scrubs with no perfume odor because of patient’s allergies to the odor, white sneakers or nursing shoes, no visible tattoos, and basic ear piercings, clean cut shaving, and well groomed hair style.

2. Describe what makes someone a professional in your field. Use research and/or reflect on your personal experiences and what you know about your profession (or the profession you will work in). Conducting oneself in a professional manner is essential for successful medical assistants. The attitude of those in the medical profession is generally more conservative than in other career fields. Patients expect professional behavior and will base much of their trust and confidence in those who exhibit this type of demeanor in the physician’s office. Many characteristics make up the professional posture required of medical assistants. There are 8 characteristics that a medical assistant should have while working in the medical field they are Loyalty, Dependability, Courtesy, Initiative, Flexibility, Credibility, Confidentiality, and Attitude.
