Team Building

At the beginning of the CEO and Leadership Team meeting, Don Ruiz, CEO, thanked his team for taking the time out of their busy schedules to meet about the new project on such short notice. This shows that he cares about his team and how they work with one another. During the meeting, Teri was offended by Michelle and Charles comments. The meeting took a turn for the worse, Don regained control by complimenting Teri and letting her know that he was confident in her abilities. This technique eased the tension in the room and brought focus back to the key issues at hand. “Teambuilding is a catch-all term for a whole host of techniques aimed at improving the internal functioning of work groups,” (Kinicki & Kreitner, 2004).

Cohesiveness

Although Gene One meetings can get a little out of hand, the senior leadership team works well together to achieve the common goals of the organization. According to the article in Business Insights magazine, at one of the staff meetings, the team members began hurling ideas at each other at a rapid speed. The process resulted in a great plan, born of everybody’s input, created by a team (University of Phoenix, 2010). This shows a form of “we-ness” amongst the team and exhibits excellent teamwork. “Cohesiveness is a process whereby “a sense of ‘we-ness’ emerges to transcend individual differences and motives,” (Kinicki & Kreitner, 2004).

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

John Kirby and Susan Wells, Gene One board members, “were concerned about members of the leadership team ability to lead the IPO transformation process,” (University of Phoenix, 2010).
