Triangles have been around for many years, used not only in math but also in buildings and structures throughout history. The early Egyptians had slaves build pyramids for kings, which they believed would help assist them when entering into the afterlife. Mayans also built pyramids for purposes that were similar to the Egyptians, but Mayan pyramids also had a different exterior design that included staircases and platforms located on top and in the middle of there pyramids. The Mayans built two different kinds of pyramids; some for holding sacrificial rituals and some that were not meant to be touched at all and were very sacred. Other cultures have built pyramids as well; pyramids have been discovered in Indonesia, India, Mesopotamia, Medieval Europe, The Roman Empire, China, Greece and Sudan. We all know pyramids as being related to triangles, and we know triangles as being related to math. Well in this essay, I am going to share with you the history of triangles, how triangles were discovered, and the various ways they were used and are still being used today.

The most popular use of triangles is in geometry. A triangle is one of the basic shapes of geometry. A triangle is a polygon with three corners or vertices and three sides or edges, which are called, line segments. There are three different types of triangles, equilateral, isosceles, and scalene. Equilateral triangles have all congruent sides, isosceles triangles have two congruent sides and scalene triangles have no congruent sides. Triangles are assumed to be two-dimensional plane figures, unless stated otherwise. The measures of the interior angles of a triangle always add up to be 180. This makes determining the third angle easier as soon as the measures of two angles are known. Triangles can be used in many different ways when using math. But do you know when triangles were first discovered and by whom? Let us find out.
