Anchor: We also have a football coach who has been in this profession for the past 17 years. Sir, I am just curious, what was your take away from the movie? Has it helped you?

During the half time in a football match, we may be down by three goals or probably be leading by 2-0. This seven and a half minute break is a crucial juncture of the match. I need to keep the team motivated, give them the belief that they can win it from any situation, give them the belief that they can continue winning as they have done in the past, give them the belief that they have that “can do” spirit. I still remember the 2008 Fifa world cup semi-final. We were trailing by a goal and a loss in that match would have shut all doors for us from proceeding ahead in the tournament. I did not give a pep talk on motivation that day, what I did was play a still from this movie “The Wolf of Wall Street”. As the players watched the still, I quietly observed them, and I could see the rise in energy, the rise in the spirit, and finally we ended up on the winning side of the match.

Anchor: That’s a great thing Sir if a 5 minute movie clip can drive so much motivation, probably some coaches can pick up a cue from this instance. But apart from this, do you feel that one single person can motivate his employees to this great extent as seen in the movie?

I have been a coach for the past 17 years. You have to believe in your players. If you believe that a player can deliver results, mark my words, “he will deliver”, if you doubt his abilities, he is bound to make a mistake. It’s all about giving them the self belief that they can do it and can become the kings of the world.
