Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

• What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?

Discrimination is a term that is used to refer to the unfair treatment of a person or group on the basis of prejudice. It is also involves showing careful judgment and discernment especially in matters of taste. Discrimination is very different from prejudice and the act of stereotyping. Stereotyping is a generalization of people with similar traits, and prejudice is when you're negative to specific people but not actually doing, it's basically the thought. While discrimination is actually acting on those thoughts, it's actually act of doing something negative to certain type of group. They're all linked together; stereotyping leads to being prejudice, and once you have prejudice thoughts to a certain group you become more inclined to act on that thought which then becomes discrimination.

• What are the causes of discrimination?

Some of the causes of discrimination are just the way people were raised, differences in religion, or their own personal hatred towards a certain group based upon their personal experiences. There are lots of reasons why people discriminate against other people. I think the main cause for the majority of discrimination is the way people were raised. If you grow up all your life seeing the people you look up to discriminating against people then you will be more likely to do it yourself. Just think some places in the world have big differences in their views when it comes to gender. Some places women have to dress a certain way or they can’t vote or whatever the case may be. This is just their way of life because that is what they were taught and that is what they are teaching their kids and it will continue unless someone puts a stop to it and starts a change....
