Chapter 19: Question 1 What are some of the common characteristics of Hebrew poetry? How does biblical poetry differ from much of our modern poetry?

Common characteristics of Hebrew poetry include meter, parallelism, Chiasm, and acrostics. The flow and categorizing of Hebrew poetry is nothing like the poetry of today because of form and how things work together.

Chapter 19: Question 2 How would you explain parallelism to someone who had never heard of it?

This means that one verse would compliment and follow the one following it. It parallels thought rather than rhyme.

Chapter 20: Question 4 Describe the points of view of Eliphaz, Bildad, and Zophar. Where did they place the blame for Job’s suffering? What was Job’s response?

They were saying that his suffering was from his sins. Job told them that their wisdom was faulty and that God was always there.

Elihu was explaining that God makes us suffer so we can rest in prayer. He also explained God was silent because he treats slave and king the same, and Job should have been in deeper prayer

God told Job that he is the maker of all, and thus is perfect in all. He asked Job if he had the qualities of God, or just a mortal. Job broke down and accepted what had happened.

This holds three ideas simultaneously. Job had to suffer but ultimately it was for the good of God.
