Sometimes it’s hard to find the right words to express something. Sometimes in life a person can feel something they can’t quite express. For instance, the experience of love a parent has for their child. It is love a parent feels for their child, but it’s not just love, it’s a deeper love. It’s a love that out matches the love a parent feels for themself. It’s a feeling so powerful that just seeing your child doing something cute, can quickly remove you from the reality of a hard long day, taking you away rapidly from a bad mood and raising your spirits. You see yourself in them, you see your parents in you, and you feel connected to the past and the future in a powerful way. This love of a parent to a child affects us profoundly. Our thoughts for our children’s future are filled with the highest hopes we can muster; and when we fear for them, the fear we feel for them overpowers any fear we could ever have for ourselves. We can know this about our love for our children. We can see how we are affected by it clearly, but do we have the ability to express it completely, with simple description? No, simple description doesn’t have the ability to communicate so powerful an emotion. Unless someone has felt this feeling themselves, they don’t have any way of accessing it the way a parent does. The feeling of deep love isn’t something that can’t be understood in a detached intellectual way, it must be felt first hand. So how can someone be made to feel this deep love? Through their imagination a person can feel it. A person can imagine themselves to be a mother or a father, and have an idea how they would feel if their child was hurt, or in danger. They can begin to understand the power of that emotion. They can begin to know themselves better and become more ready for the day when they might actually feel the weight of such love.
