Physical | Sexual intercourse takes place. An egg is fertilised by a sperm. As the foetus grows and develops the woman's stomach expands.When you are 5 weeks pregnant, the baby’s heart it made up of two tiny channels. These are called heart tubes. The heart is beating but not in the correct rhythm yet. When the tubes fuse together the baby will have a fully functioning heart. | Mostly immobile when they are born and they do not have much muscular co-ordination. From birth onwards, muscles and bones begin to strengthen and control their movement. | Growth is fast but not as fast as an infant. Their body begins to be more adult like. They are able to control their movement more now e.g. kicking a ball without any help and support. | Puberty begins in this stage of life. Teenagers have growth spurts and weight increases. Boys and girls begin to change and look different because they are growing into young men and women. For example, they begin to grow pubic hair, hair under arms and on faces (for boys) and girls begin their period. | At early adulthood you are fully developed. They are mature and many begin to settle down for what they want in life e.g. marriage, children or a career. From about 30 years+ physical development becomes more noticeable. These are: wrinkling of the skin, grey and thinner hair, hearing and sight decrease, bones lose calcium and become weaker, not as flexible and the menopause for women over 50. | Ageing progresses more quickly. They may deal with some sort of disability as they are no longer able to do what they were when they were younger. For example, take part in a sport they enjoyed or go out for the day with friends or family. |
