1.0 Background of the company:

Linde group is a company focus on gases and engineering. At 2011 financial year, Linde achieved sales of EUR 13.787 bn.

At the beginning, Carl von Linde, a professor realized the potential of building an improved ice and refrigeration machine. The first ice machine was patent in January 1874. However the design had a flawed and he designed a second model which was sold to DreherBreweryin 1878. Their first large customer group was the European brewers due to lack of ice in warm winter in European. In 1878, the professor decided to leave civil service and focus on refining and marketing the company. From 1879 until 1890, Linde was mainly focus on refrigerant process. After that, Linde move from refrigerant to air liquefaction from 1891 until 1934. Air liquefaction became more important during that time due to high demand of pure oxygen gas and pure nitrogen gas.

Today, Linde had change from a small engineering company into an international technology group and become one of the world largest suppliers of industrial and medical gases.

The company consisted of 3 divisions which is industrial gases, engineering and Gist division. Industrial gases produce and distribute atmospheric gases oxygen, nitrogen and argon. The gases division has four operating segment at western Europe, America, Asia and Eastern Europe and South Pacific and Africa. The engineering division focuses on olefin plant, natural gas plants, air separation plant and hydrogen and synthesis gas plant. Finally, gist division offer to design, set up, implementation and operational management through to supply chain consulting services for the client company.
