Write a critical commentary of the following two poems, both written in the late 20th century: (A)Woman’s Work and (B) Female Executive.

Both poems (A) and (B) use imagery to depict the hard work of a woman while at work, and the poems depict the experiences that the personas have to face while at work through the use of style and structure and the portrayal of work to be something that is dreary and uninteresting.

Both poems (A) and (B) use imagery to depict the hard work of a woman while at work. In poem (A), the use of the words “centuries of human toil” shows the hard work and torture that the persona has had to go through to get by a day’s work of work and this torture had gone on for a prolonged period of time as seen from the word “centuries” and as a result, her hands have ‘felt the gentle curvatures” of the grinds and fruits of her labor. In poem (B), the person’s work does not come easily as well as she has to wake up early as seen from “she rises early” at dawn and has to go home late, after dusk, even to the pint of missing or sacrificing a meal as seen from the use of the words “miss dinner”. In poem (A), the use of the words ‘aching labor” depicts signs of pain and torture that the persona has had to suffer and go through at work which creates a sense of sympathy and empathy towards the speaker among us as readers. In poem (B), the repetition of the word “report” show that the persona is constantly under the eye and supervision of someone that does not allow the persona to have freedom of thought, expression and mind while she is at work, yet again evoking a sense of empathy among us as readers. Hence, both poems (A) and (B) use imagery to depict the hard work of a woman while she is at work.
