1.0 Introduction

In today’s workplace, Chen and Klimoski [2007] as cited in Ilgen and Pulakos [1999] mentioned that continuously improve employees’ knowledge, skills and work habits is essential and organization invest highly in the development of human capital. The sme idea is also supported by other authors. Based on Sultana and Irum and Ahmed and Mehmood [2012] as cited in Gordon [1992], training is a type of activity which is planned and systematic to enhance the level of skills, knowledge and competency that are necessary for the employees to perform their work or job effectively in their workplace.

Despite of all that viewpoints, training and development may lead to many possible benefits or advantages for both employees and organization. According to “The economic times” (2012), there was a survey done regarding on-job-training which actually helps to increase the organization’s employees morale. This happens as employees tend to appreciate learning and training at their workplace since it enables them to develop new knowledge and skills without leaving the workplace. Therefore, increase employees’ job satisfaction, confidences and develop more efficient and effective motivated employees. When the employees are motivated, they will increase the productivity thus positively affecting the bottom line.

Besides that, training can minimize accidents that might happen during the production period. It is simply because trained employees have the ability to cope with the use of new or advance production process and technology, thus providing a better understanding about their job. Training and development may reduce the employees’ turnover and higher retention rate. It will also provide employees a sense of motivation, thus increasing the contribution of effort to their company. As the result, satisfied employees of the company will produce satisfied customer and will then improve the organizational performance.
