Have you ever had a job where your co-worker could not bend over to pick something up because they were overweight? Have you ever known someone that had a death related to their weight? In American obesity is a growing problem. More than one-third of U.S. adults are overweight or obese ("Center for disease," 2012). In general, rates of overweight and obesity are higher for African-American and Hispanic women than Caucasian women, higher for Hispanic men than Caucasian and African-American men, higher in the South and Midwest, and tend to increase with age ("Food research and," 2012). Regardless of race and gender, overweight and obese people need to take care of themselves and have better eating habits.

Many people die every year due to being overweight. Obesity is the second most preventable cause of death in America (Ellis, 2011). In today’s world, kids do not get the proper exercise they need. Schools are adjusting their budget and reducing physical education programs. More than 80 percent of people with Type 2 diabetes are obese or overweight. Obesity also causes heart disease, hypertension, reproductive hormonal abnormalities, and many health problems (Matrixgroup International, 2011). Obesity is killing too many people in the United States.

The growing problem of obesity is taking a toll on other citizens in the United States. Most obese people have a hard time getting around and doing daily tasks. A person with normal weight is much more sufficient than someone who is obese. Also, a person with normal weight will not only be able to move and get around easier, but the will live longer. Even on the job obese people have trouble and cause other co-worker to have more of a work load.
