Abstract

Servant-leadership is a topic close to Christians and others whom exist solely for the benefits of others. Through the examination of text, biblical scriptures, and University presentations, the topic of servant-leadership has been analyzed and presented. There are two types of servant-leaders; Christ-centered and man-centered. It has been identified that Jesus is the ultimate servant-leader and all should try to emulate His stellar example

“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Master and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called ‘teacher,’ for you have one Teacher, the Christ. The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Matthew 23:8-12). “The greatest among you will be your servant,” this particular line of scripture is in stark contrast to the ways of the world today. In many societies, including Western society, those low on the totem pole serve those that are atop the mountain. The lowly fry cook at McDonald’s can only dream an acknowledgement of their existence and work will come from the CEO of the corporation. Jesus taught us through his words and deeds that the greatest shall be the least of all.

The identification of a servant-leader begins with three questions:

* Am I a leader?

* Am I willing to follow Jesus as my role model?

* How do I lead like Jesus? (Liberty University, 2014).

To rationalize if one is a leader, the definition of what a leader is must be understood. What is a leader? A leader is one who is a guiding force of a group of individuals.
