She has been named “50 Most Powerful Women in Business” by Fortune, and is one of the 50 “World’s Most Powerful Women” by Forbes, she is Ellen Kullman, Chief Executive Officer of DuPont. Ellen started with DuPont in 1988, and it is believed that she has revolutionized DuPont and brought them to the future (Forbes, 2014). Ms. Kullman has achieved her degree, a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Tufts University, a Master’s of Science in Management from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and an honorary Doctor of Science from the University of Edinburgh (Board of Directors, 2014). Ellen has pioneered a different path and way of thinking for DuPont ever since she became Chief Executive Officer for this two hundred and twelve year old chemical company.
Kullman believes in communication, reinvention, and innovation, after all that is what DuPont is all about, innovation. She wanted to steer employees in that direction as well, but in a different way. Since becoming CEO of DuPont, Ms. Kullman believed in communicating with employees, both big and small. Kullman encouraged leadership to get out there and communicate with the employees; she even went to parts of the organizations where employees were laid off to keep an open communication between them (Dupont CEO, 2009). Not only does she believe in communication but she also aligns herself with what the company believes in, reinvention and innovation.
DuPont is a company that prides itself of reinvention. Time after time they have reinvented themselves for the better since the beginning.
