Martin Luther King Jr. was a civil rights leader that had several accomplishments in his time. He was well respected by many African Americans as well as hated by many white Americans. Martin Luther King Jr. was a prophet for peace and also for justice. Of the many contributions to society that Martin Luther King Jr. made he had several that were most notable. Martin Luther King Jr. preached nonviolence in all his works. He led the boycott of the bus in 1955 which was started by Rosa Parks when she was asked to give her seat up for a white individual. This boycott last over one year during which time Martin Luther King Jr. received many life threats against his life. He also had his house bombed during the boycott along with being arrested. As the result of his arrest the courts made a ruling that prohibited racial segregation on public buses and other modes of public transportation. In 1957 Martin Luther King Jr. also helped to establish the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. This organization helped with the nonviolence efforts that he preached and worked for the civil rights.

Bill Gates was a creative thinker of a more recent time. He contributed to society by offering a computer that formerly had only been available to the rich or to large corporations available to ordinary people. Having the computer available to ordinary people opened doors that had never been imagined previously. Bill Gates also gave to society by becoming rich from his technological genius and establishing The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Through his foundation he gave away billions to various charities.

Martin Luther King’s tried to establish equal rights for black and white Americans. Because of his efforts to try to make minorities’ rights equal to others this caused him to be hated.
