Kathy Kudler decided to start a gourmet grocery store chain in the year 1998 by the name .Kudler Fine Foods. Due to the lack of premier fine food grocery stores in her area, Kathy thought this would present an excellent opportunity. The first store was opened in La Jolla, California and became an instant success. Later, Kathy opened two other stores. The other stores reside in Del Mar, California and Encinitas, California. Kathy is over working herself and is taking on more than she can handle because she is extremely involved in every part of the stores. This is also a concern for her management team as well. Kathy needs to realize there are limitations for her and her management team. Kathy will have to increase the ranks in management, delegation to tasks, and automation of the everyday work so she is able to succeed in the expantion of her store into other areas. Kathy Kudler manages the existing chain of three stores the same way she ran the first store. Kathy has to work seven days a week because she has so many responsibilities. According to the Kudler Fine Foods 2003 Strategic Plan,

“Kathy not only has the vision of the organization, she has established the those not working out, finalizes the inventory numbers, places the weekly orders and culture and is the main management person. She hires new people, fires controls the finances making sure all of the vendors get paid.” (strategic plan 2003 p 12)

Kathy is taking on all these tasks and her management staff is still over worked. Because Kathy is taking on so many responsibilities and properly delegating them, she and her management staff risk the failure of a future store opening. An immediate course of action to change the process of how Kathy runs her management team is needed in order for the chain to survive.
