Introductory Thoughts Regarding Social & Mobile Technologies

The use of technology and social media has changed the way we interact, gather information, and the way we share news. There are millions of people that access social sites everyday. For many people it has become part of their daily life. Usually, people use the Internet to expend content: they watch it, read it, as well as using it to purchase products and services. However, consumers are using platforms such as blogs, social networking, wikis, and content sharing sites to modify, share, create, and discuss Internet content. This signifies the social media phenomenon, which has an impact on sales, firm’s reputation, and even a way for people to survive.

There are many positive effects of social media on society. Sites like Facebook and Twitter has shown interactions among many people. These websites allow people to be socially active. For example, when we go on Facebook we can see that it allows us o like and comment on people’s photos and statuses, play games, direct message one another, and join many different groups. This site allows us to keep in contact with people that we may know around the world. It also allows people that have a hard time communicating in person interact online. Google allows us to gain access to information expanding our knowledge. When our professors give us n assignment to work on, the first thing we do is browse through Google, which helps us understand the topic more before actually doing the assignment.

The reason I use social media (Facebook especially) is to interact with my family members in Nigeria. I do not need to pay for a calling card or anything, all I need to do is go on Facebook and send them a message on chat. I also use it to find friends that I have been trying to reach for years. I would be able to tell if it is the person I am looking for through their profile picture. I personally love to post pictures of myself on Facebook a lot (call it what you want).
