I have a few more years left in the Army but when I get out, I’ll be searching for a flying job. Not only will I be competing against my peers who are also getting out, but civilians who also want a flying job. Using the 4P’s, I would hope to have a better chance in getting a job.

Price- I have an idea of the price cap of my career field. There is always room for negotiation. I will not sell myself short but also know reaching for the cap isn’t realistic. I will take into consideration my skill level, experience and certifications I currently hold during the negotiations. Price can go up during the promotion phase. My employer will know I’m retired so medical would be a huge plus for me since I have free medical from the Army. In addition, I have a retirement check that can compensate just to get my foot in the door.

Product- I have worked in aviation my entire military career. I started out as a crewchief on helicopter then moved to flying them. Now I’ve expanded to flying fixed wing (planes). I currently have the knowledge, skills and experience of flying multiple types of aircraft. I can show my flight log and credentials to show that I am clearly qualified.

Promotion- Initially I would use cover letters, resumes, phone calling, and interviewing to get my foot in the door. Using the right promotion tools will allow me to get a job interview and ultimately get a job offer. Once I’m in the door, the use of advertising to promote the business by mentioning my experience will help once the word get out and the use of word of mouth starts to spill over throughout the community.

Place- Place is where the job is. Moving is not an issue where my skill set is needed. This will allow me to provide my services at a place which is convenient for consumers. In addition, I can use networking as a means to find a good place. I have developed a broad list of contacts -- people I’ve met through various social and duty locations -- and using them to my advantage...
