Kristens Cookies Case Analysis

Kristen’s Cookie Company is a cookie shop for hungry students late at night. The company provides a make to order production process in which customers submit their specific cookie orders to the shop, and will be baked fresh to each order.

Generally, it will take 26 minutes to fill a rush order of one dozen cookies. This was calculated by breaking down the time of the entire process. Six total minutes will include washing the electric mixer and beaters, adding the ingredients, mixing. Spooning the cookies on the tray will take an extra 2 minutes. 10 minutes will include setting the oven and baking. And then finally eight total minutes for removal and cooling, packing, and paying. A total of 24 minutes for a rush order of one dozen cookies. 10 additional minutes will apply for 2 and 3 dozen cookies of the same ingredients. And 2 minutes to pack each dozen cookie. Therefore 2 dozen cookies of the same ingredients will take 38 minutes, and three dozen will take 50.

The amount of orders we can fill in one night, assuming opening for four hours each night will have some variance. However, if we take a look at the step that takes the longest amount of time which is 9 minutes to bake, we can understand how many orders we can truly fill. Assuming that each order includes three dozen cookies and 3 dozen cookies will take 27 minutes to bake, we can understand that in four hours or 240 minutes, Kristens Cookie Company can fill 8.8 orders.

The amount of time needed from me is only from the first four steps of washing, adding ingredients, mixing and spooning. A total of 8 minutes of my time will go into the process for each order. However for my roommate is a different story. My roommate is responsible for the next five steps. This could take between 18 minutes for one dozen to 40 minutes for three dozen.

Since our baking trays can only hold exactly one dozen cookies, we can only sell cookies by the dozen....
