Founded in 2005, Treehouse has expanded its branches through acquisitions to create a product portfolio which includes non-dairy powdered creamer; condensed, ready to serve and powdered soups; refrigerated and shelf stable salad dressings and sauces; powdered drink mixes; single serve hot beverages; specialty teas; hot cereals; macaroni and cheese, skillet dinners and other value-added side dishes and salads; salsa and Mexican sauces; jams and pie fillings under the E.D. Smith brand name; pickles and related products; and other food products including aseptic sauces and liquid non-dairy creamer. TreeHouse believes it is the largest manufacturer of pickles and non-dairy powdered creamer in the United States and the largest manufacturer of private label salad dressings, powdered drink mixes and instant hot cereals in the United States and Canada based on sales volume.

While TreeHouse Foods, Inc. was formed in 2005, the history of its key operating company, Bay Valley Foods, LLC, dates back to 1862. In 2005, Dean Specialty Foods was spun off from Dean Foods and became Bay Valley Foods, LLC, and a division of TreeHouse Foods, Inc. On June 28, 2005 TreeHouse Foods, Inc. became an independent and public company trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol THS. Between 2006 and 2013, the company had begun what would be the first of seven acquisitions, business of Del Monte Foods Company. It went on to acquire San Antonio Farms' salsa and picante business, followed by the acquisition of E.D. Smith on October 15, 2007. E. D.
