For example, he uses the conch to call everyone. He tells Ralph to use the lens to make the fire. He is an intelligent person and considers being intellectual of the group. He represents for the scientist, for example, he uses the makeshift sundial that the boys use to tell the time. Piggy’s voice for reason, what is right is right. When Jack stole his spectacle, he came to Jack’s place and asked to get it back. He knows he is weaker than Jack. He is not scared Jack. He just wants to tell Jack what is right and wrong. The spectacle is his and without it he cannot see anything.
He is intelligent but he is ineffective without Ralph. He is like a strategist but there is no soldier in hand. He is the man of thought, not for action. He is weak because of his asthma and fat. He is protected by Ralph and Ralph also needs him to give him solid ideas to be a successful leader.
Simon is different with Piggy. He is not intelligent like Piggy. He is shy and younger than the other boys, but he is very kind. He is constantly thinking of others. He is very sensitive and fear but he knows that the only way to deal with it is to face it. He is the one who encounters with the evil on island and discovers that it is not something to fear. The death of Simon shows the transition society from democracy society who leads by Ralph to the savagery society who leads by Jack.
