(a) Discuss the significance of the organizational fitness model. Identify a tourism organization that you believe has successfully evolved their design to “fit” their business environment and strategic direction. How did they achieve this? (a) The organizational fitness model is significant because it demonstrates how the different systems and parts of an organization to “fit” and or come together in order for the organization to be successful. It is this alignment that enables the business to develop the organizational capabilities/culture 9attitudes, skills, and behavior) needed to compete successfully (Chowdhury, 2003). It provides us with a visual illustration of how each part of the organization is intertwined and function as parts of a whole (the organization) similar to the way organs function within the human body. If one falters, the body may be able to function for a period of time, but it is highly likely that the other parts will eventually begin to decline as well.

Trinidad and Tobago is a small island country (it’s actually an archipelago) located in the southern Caribbean right above the South American country of Venezuela. While it’s not as well-known as places such as Jamaica and the Bahamas, it is certainly a destination force to be reckoned with. The Coco Reef Resort and Spa is located on the Tobago island part of the country (Tobago is typically the part that caters to tourism for the nation). Though the tourist infrastructure is fairly limited on the island, Coco Reef Resort and Spa has still managed to pool its resources to create a fit perfect for its guests and lucrative enough to keep their profit margins in the green.
