Where Did the Romance Go?

Everybody dreams about that special moment; They want their first time having sex to be a momentous occasion. When we dream about losing our virginity, in our minds we picture it as being romantic, and we are there with our one true love, and time stops....Yeah right! Most of the time, we share our first act of sexual intercourse with somebody, in our messy bedroom of our parents house, and there are no candles, no romantic music, and no chance of being with that person twenty years later. Teaching abstinence is a way to teach people to hold off so that they can, one day, have the incredible experience that they have always dreamed of when it comes to sex. In Lance Morrows’ Fifteen Cheers For Abstinence, Morrow says, “the more you indulge in anything, good or bad, but especially bad... the more you lose.” (Morrow 11). Indulging in casual sex causes you to lose your chance at romance.

There is a point during sex where most people attach themselves with their partner. This union can come willingly or unwillingly, but it rarely never comes. This feeling of connection comes quicker with women than men. We try to pretend like we don’t care what happens after the sex is over , but when everything is done and over with and we go home, we feel an emptiness. “The more you abstain, the more you gain.” (Morrow 11) If you save your body for your future spouse then you are more likely to get that special romantic feeling (and you are less likely to get diseases such as syphilis and/or aids). According to a study done by the Alan Guttmacher Institute, "Four percent of the sexually active girls aged 15 to 17, and five percent of the 18- and 19-year-olds, had already had more than 10 partners". (Lewin 3) Diseases are spreading rapidly between our members of the youth today.

Today people pride themselves on the fact that they can have sex with as many people and as many times as possible. Sex is all over the billboards and the television....
