Well starting off is that the readings that were read had a lot to talk about one true skill needed in the correctional officer career. That skill is social intelligence, which deals with communication. The reading said that when in the correctional field communication is very important. You have to be able to handle the inmates with anything they tend to throw at you. The reading talked about how to deal with inmates with problems, and how to handle them.
The most common way to handle a situation with inmates is the way you handle yourself that consist of position, posture, and listen. You can handle most situations with inmates if you follow these skills. You got to know how to communicate in a field like this do to the dangers of the field. The less stress in the environment with you and the inmates will be a better environment for the both of you. You would also have better control over any inmate that may have other things in mind.
The skills that are being asked to demonstrate are position, posture, and listen. The skills are valuable to me, because I am planning on making this my career after I finish my schooling. I have to be aware skills to achieve my career success. These skills can definitely be used in other college courses. They are all part of communication. These skills are part of my career of choice. They are the most important skills in the career, because you have to use these in any situation that happen in the correctional system.
