Dinteman Company Case Analysis
Introduction
The Dinteman Company manufactures industrial machines and equipment. This business furthermore has numerous production departments. Because of all the equipment it delivers and services it covers, Dinteman has a somewhat huge repair and maintenance (R&M) department. There appears to be a breakdown of communication and effectiveness between the production department and the R&M department. This is triggering costs to increase and a new system of for scheduling jobs must be presented.
Data Items
The data for the R&M department have a number of service requests, amount of service requests, the time estimates for the service completion, and the costs to complete these services. The data for the production department are similar, nonetheless taken somewhat different. The production department requires all of the above, however they also require data afterwards, like the actual hours worked to complete the job, and the cost of parts and supplies.
Work Order Distribution
The Production Dept. starts request and sends a copy to R&M, saving a copy for their records. R&M prepares the estimated times and costs of finishing the job and sends it to the Production Department, a copy is saved. An estimate is either approved or denied by the production company. The copy is then sent to R&M.
At this time R&M either adjusts the service request because of the denial, or establishes the work order and schedules the job. R&M would replicate the above step otherwise if it is approved, R&M will keep a copy of the approved work order, send a copy with the employee sent to finish the job, and a copy of the work order goes to the customer.
