Why did Islam spread so quickly?

Islam spread quickly because the caliphs cared about the well-being of their people. Caliphs were the early leaders of the Islamic religion and people. A caliph means successor or deputy. Over several centuries, the ten public duties of the caliph were formally established and were understood that they had to be carried out. “To defend the lands of Islam and to protect them from intrusions so that people may earn their livelihood and travel at will without danger to his life or property” (E). This excerpt from the Ordinance of Government interprets that it was the caliph who was responsible to make sure his people could safely travel and trade without harm. In other empires power went straight towards the main ruler and the royal family. This resulted in the safety and protection of the ruler’s people to be forgotten. To know that under the Islamic caliph a person’s career and life was protected was an appeal of safety and assurance for many. “To execute judgments between litigants and to settle disputes between contestants so that justice may prevail and so that none commit or suffer injustice” (E). This regulation said that a caliph was to see that peace was made between any argument involving individuals or groups of people. This law was enforced so that there would be no civil rebellion that could potentially interrupt the religion. The law was important because if fights were settled, there would be no civilian opposition. This was appealing to people because there was peace within the Islamic state, causing the religion to function better. “To wage jihad against those who, after having been invited to accept Islam, persist in rejecting it, until "they either become Muslim or enter the Pact so God’s truth may prevail over every religion” (E).
