Introduction

What is dementia?

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe various brain disorders such as ( Alzheimer’s Disease, Dementia with lewy Bodies and Vascular Dementia) which will results in loss of brain function, caused by damage to the brain cells and brain matter that dies and leave’s an open space where brain matter has shrunk. In dementia, brain cells stop working properly. This happens inside specific areas of the brain, which can affect how you think, remember and communicate.

Dementia is a general term for a decline in mental ability ‘Severe enough interfere with daily life.

Dementia is a cruel and progressive disease or illness, which means the symptoms will gradually get worse, how fast the dementia progresses depends on the individual person and what type of dementia they have, everybody is different and may experience different symptoms of dementia in their own way.

Many go undiagnosed with dementia for a long time before any signs and symptoms appear, it normally effects the age of 65 years plus , but can effect under that age as well, both men and women are at risk and it is not a natural ageing process.
