Executive Summary
Ebrahim El Kalza, a bright and entrepreneurial intern at Matthews Management Consulting (MMC), has been given the opportunity to work on an important project in Abu Dhabi. While his previous project with MMC received good management reviews, he is facing serious challenges working on this new assignment.
On three separate occasions, Ebrahim had been scolded by his supervisors and he can’t seem to understand what needs to be done to salvage the situation and to maintain realistic chances on landing a permanent position at MMC. Despite working long hours and putting in a great deal of efforts, Ebrahim’s work is continuously criticized by Sherif Mahfouz, his direct supervisor.
The issues faced by Ebrahim are ineffective communication, lack of organizational rules, misuse of power and work stressors which led to the perception of a relationship conflict between him and Sherif. This situation erodes their relationship and jeopardizes the mutual goal of successfully completing the project.
To avoid undesirable outcomes my recommendation is for Ebrahim to open up and proactively approach Sherif in order to resolve the conflict though a win-win problem solving style. Through active listening, Ebrahim will manage to establish an accurate understanding of what is required, and how it is to be done. In addition, Ebrahim should build a relationship with the...
