Human Resources Management

Human Resources Management (HRM) plays a major part in making sure that an organization will continue to develop. “Human resource management (HRM) is the managing of human skills and talents to make sure they are used effectively and in alignment with an organization's goals” The HRM ensures the most qualified people are in the right positions in order to meet the organization’s goals. An effective HRM program is concerned with helping the organization achieve its objectives by providing competent employees. They also assist with future growth needs by adequately staffing with qualified, trained employees. The HRM consists of numerous activities which include equal employment opportunity (EEO) compliance and affirmative action, human resources planning, recruitment and selection, human resources development, compensation and benefits, safety and health, and employee and labor relations. By studying these areas, I have found that it is much easier to comprehend how and why these methods are used.

Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action

When it comes to the idea of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) there are laws that prohibit discrimination including, race, religion, creed, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and gender. Equal Employment Opportunity affects every area of HRM from recruitment selection and planning to health and safety. Creating EEO policies and procedures in the workplace help avoid work place discrimination. It is important to follow the law and have all levels of management and leadership within the company to ensure EEO processes and procedures are followed. EEO covers a majority of areas in Human Resource Management, when it comes to this type of management it is crucial that management implements the correct procedures and policies in order to ensure that all of the laws that are in place to protect us from discrimination are followed.
