I’ve had a few memorable experiences with salespeople, both good and bad. I’ve been harassed by them in clothing stores, computer parts shops, and at electronic stores. I’ve also had very helpful salespeople who knew when to ask if I needed help and when to take the hint that they were not needed.

One good experience I remember of dealing with a salesman was at Micro Center a couple of years ago and I was shopping for a gift for my mother. I was thinking about getting her a tablet for her birthday but I hadn’t done much research before I left. When I got there, I was staring at the selection they had but still had no idea which to get. One of the salesmen came over and asked me if I needed help with anything. I told him I wasn’t sure which to get and he proceeded to go over the differences between each tablet and which had more features over the others.

He never tried to push the more expensive ones on me, in fact he told me that a couple of the pricy ones did less than the cheaper models and were that price simply because of the brand. He showed me a tablet that he bought for himself and that he even brought it over to show me what it was capable of. That model was one of the cheaper ones compared to the others and I ended up buying the same tablet he bought for himself and that was my gift to my mother, one she still uses today.

In reflecting on the positive experience, I thought he was an excellent salesman. He asked me what I needed and answered every question I had. He talked to me like an equal and not as if I was an idiot. I have had a mostly good experience shopping here, except for one salesman, which you will read about next.
