Diversity Issues

As businesses around the world are becoming more diverse, it’s very important for the manger/supervisor to understand and manage how diversity works in the workplace. I’m going to talk about the five issues in diversity. Age, gender, race, religion and culture I think these issues are important when operating a business.

Diversity means differences in age, gender, race, religion and culture. A person with different back grounds, languages and skin color working together in the same business is what makes it a diverse place, which can be difficult at times. In 1964 the Civil Rights Act prohibited employment discrimination based on the employee’s race, color, religion, gender, age and culture.

Age discrimination can occur at all levels of society, within the government and within the community. All ages can be discriminated against, teenagers are considered shifty and untrustworthy, elderly considered incapable, youth considered boisterous. It affects not only the people who are discriminated against, but also those who lose valuable relationships by judging them based on age.

Age discrimination gets very little attention. The laws that are in place around business indicate that age discrimination is a legal issue. That’s where the Civil Rights Act come in play, the Act prohibits any employers refusing to hire, discharge, or otherwise discriminate against any individual. The discrimination Act changed the working life in the United States. This is a way for women and minorities to have equal opportunities.

There are law and regulations for employee religious rights. Here are some of the law and regulations.
