There are a total of three major cases for this class (Plus a final case assigned at week 8), which will allow us to practice with strategic thinking in real business situations. You will produce a case brief as your assignment. The cases will be written in executive brief format which is one - two pages following the outline below.

The written case brief need to be well crafted. You will be writing in the executive brief format (less is more, but it’s harder to write one great page than 10 mediocre ones). Your overall objective with the written evaluation is to show that you can ID, analyze and apply strategic management concepts to the case in question and do so in the preferred form of executive communication. (Hint: ID the issues, do the analysis, then write the brief.)

Briefs should simply have your name, the case name and BUS 485, in the upper left corner. No covers please. Copies are due as noted in the syllabus and should be attached to the case assignment in Blackboard, or just copied and pasted into the Blackboard interface.

There are 75 points for each case. The final case from week eight is worth 100 points. The final case will be released at the beginning of week eight. :

An Executive Brief (one-to-two page MAX, single-spaced, well-organized, and well-written, like a professionally produced executive document) that contains the following:

A. Executive Summary. Begin your brief with a short summary of the case; ID key stakeholders, and why this case is important from a strategic perspective. (10 points; final case worth 15 points) 

B. Identification. Identify what you perceive to be the strategic issues/problems in the case. Usually no more than three or four points. If you have more, you may be going tactical. (20 points; final case worth 25 points)
