Controlling a Disease

The most common disease that Americans have today is Type II diabetes. Millions of Americans have been diagnosed with this disease and many more are unaware they are at risk. In 2011, there were 25.8 million children and adults with type II diabetes in the United States, that’s 8.3 percent of the population. What is type II diabetes? Type II diabetes is where a person produces insulin; however, their pancreas does not produce enough insulin or that their body doesn’t use the insulin properly. According to the American Diabetes Association there is more than one way to treat and prevent this disease. There are medications, your diet and exercise to help control your glucose levels. Instead of controlling type II diabetes by prescription medication, this disease can be controlled by diet and exercise.

To being with ways to control your blood glucose levels, people with this disease need to make wise choices about their diet. Type II diabetes can be controlled and prevented by simply watching your diet. A healthy diet would consist of fruits, vegetables, fish and lean meats. Eating healthy will also help control body fat and weight which can prevent a person from being diagnosed with Type II diabetes. Not only will a healthy diet help with maintaining a normal blood glucose level, but it will also help with your overall health. Adopting a healthier diet would be better than to have high levels of glucose and taking medications. Medications like insulin, which can be taken by pill form or actually giving insulin shots a couple of times a day to help control your levels. Then there are side effects from taken medication that will have to be outweighed to see if taken insulin helps more than the possible side effects.
