A family has been seen as a cohabitated unit where both biological parents live together in matrimony and provide their children a warm and nurturing environment for growth. Since 1990s the fall of these matrimonial families and rise in single or step families have been evident. As per the researches children growing up in single home have elevated risk of emotional, social and cognitive behavioral problem. Most studies state that, the reduction in economical and family support leads to behavior deviance however this paper focuses on an alternate hypothesis.

It is understood that the growth of an individual requires availability of certain resources and the behavior modification is accentuated if a presence of aggressive and delinquent is seen at same time. It is also believed that a single parent is unable to play all roles simultaneously and affectively. It is to be understood that a functional family with little resources and strong family values can make a better individual also presence of father figure in a family doesn’t assure proper development of a child. This study focus on the peer relations and family relations of a child that further forms his character and at the same time, through additional sources exhibits that often single families can breed healthy individuals with strong identity.
